Wrap Mode [or Page View, margins are too wide]

I migrated to a new MBP with M4 Max chipset.

I migrated all my Scrivner preferences and templates to the new machine but still some things don’t look right.

When I view a document in “Wrap Mode” there is too much white space, the page is too wide and the back ground color too narrow. How do I make the colored part wider?

According to the settings for appearance it is supposed to be based on “Page Setup Settings” but that doesn’t seem to do anything if I change it.

What should I do?

Are you talking about Page View here?

Basically you need to dig into the “hidden” page settings and change the margins for a start:

That is what I did as mentioned in my text but nothing changed.

In settings it says "Base the view size on:
“File>Page Setup settings.”

I went to that place:

Played with the numbers for the different margins but nothing changed.

What am I doing wrong?

What I see is that your margin isn’t the same size on both sides, despite your screenshot saying it actually is.
Check your paragraph’s first and following lines indent. – And/or display and have a look at the ruler.

…And perhaps are you styling this or these paragraphs?

I just imported my previous settings from my old MAC, No problem on the ond one, but now on the new one we have a problem.

But I will try to figure it out.

I hope it is not a big time waster. Things like this should be obvious and not compicated.

Please turn on the View → Text Editing → Show Invisibles option, and the Ruler, and then post another screenshot in which the Ruler is visible.

Not exactly sure where those straight lines around the text come from. Would take me a while to find the toggle.

Probably those straight lines are the source of your problem. Select the text, and choose the Format → Table → Remove Table command.

Remove Table is greyed out so. it is not a table. So that border must come from somewhere else.

Make sure the problem text is selected.

If it is indeed not a table, please open a support ticket, here:
https://www.literatureandlatte.com/contact-us
and attach a copy of the project.

Those are “margin guides” and I must have turned them on by mistake. But turning them off doesn’t solve the problem with page view.

Should I still open a suport ticket?

Looking at the Ruler in your screenshot, the text is aligned where the indent markers on the Ruler say it should be. So the next thing to check would be the Format → Paragraph → Tabs and Indents pane.

To clarify how things work: The “margin” settings in the Page Setup pane define the boundaries of the text block relative to the physical page. The Ruler settings define where the text is relative to that block. Among other things, this is how Scrivener is able to change the page size (via the Compile command) without forcing the user to change anything in the Editor.

Ok, so between “Page Setup” and Format>Paragraph>Tabs and Indents
I have no problem dealing with the position of the text. But my problem is that the blue background should be much wider. BTW this is with version 3.4

It seems that the (white) page is much too large.

I will now switch to my old computer and upload what it is supposed to look like using the previous version of Scrivner.

This is from my old MBP using Scrivener 3.3.6

Note how the white space between text and border is smaller and the blue background is bigger. This is what I want on new version of Scrivener.

That looks like the Zoom setting is different. View → Zoom, or the dropdown menu at the bottom left of the Editor pane.

I had imported all settings from old to new. They are both at 400%.

Because I imported them the setting I can’t figure out what is different except for the version. But, this also worked in even earlier versions of Scrivener.

It would appear that this is an unintended artifact of the new version of Scrivener.

That seems unlikely. Not a lot changed on our side.

It’s hard to make useful suggestions without looking at the project, though.

So you still want me to open a support ticket? Will do.
