I’m using the non-fiction manuscript template. I noticed I have the option to write directly in the folder, by clicking on the folder and just starting to write. This seems to be an option instead of creating new text documents for sections. Will this still compile correctly?
Many of Scrivener’s supplied Compile formats assume that the component sections are in sub-documents within a “chapter” folder. Those formats will not incorporate text in the folder document itself in the output file.
But Scrivener overall doesn’t care. If you’re willing to edit the Compile format appropriately, you can do anything you want.
The folders in the binder are just documents with another icon. They are not folders like you have in a file system.
You can convert any document in the binder to a folder, and any folder to a document.
