Cannot create documentary script from template [sync settings did not save project]

I am using Scrivener to write documentary scripts. The first time I used this it worked fine. Subsequent attempts do not work to completion. The template is not populated in Templates\Scene and there is no sample output or sample script to reference. I am creating the project from "new project → scriptwriting → documentary.

I also got the Files\Data is missing error at first when I had a long folder name that began with numbers.

At first I presumed it’s a OneDrive glitch, but I switched to dropbox for storage and now have more of the template, but not all of it. The default scene template now has:
SCENE<$N>.

but not the table for me to complete.
Is there an option to merge in the template so that it repairs itself?

Ok, resolved.

  1. Do not use OneDrive
  2. The SCENE<$N> came from me not realising I’d selected BBC radio script. Documentary script is working as designed.

Agree don’t use one drive for live projects due to potential sync errors, but can store zip backups on one drive and then extract at a second location and replace the project folder on the second computer and update the project to work at a second location.

OneDrive can work fine on Windows, but you do need to take care to keep the “files on demand” feature off. This is true of any sync service though, including Dropbox, as I note in the final paragraph of that post.

Just FYI, I recently installed Win11 for the first time, and found that “files on demand” is enabled by default.

People will need to either –

  1. Disable it completely from OneDrive Advanced settings, by choosing “Download all files”

== OR ==

  1. Right-click on the desired folder(s) and select “Always keep on this device”

Best,

This finding deserves a prominent place, say in the L&L FAQ’s or something re Windows 11, IMHO. Or wherever it will be available and seen. Of course can’t help those not seeking guidance.

We do already have a OneDrive entry, but it is aimed at Windows 8. So we’ll just need to update that to include Win 11’s instructions now, too. Thanks for the tips on how to do so!
