That’s not quite right. You won’t be getting an email as there’s no new information to be sent out.

So, with less than a day to go, it’s worth a quick reminder of how tomorrow will work!

You have until 8pm UK time to email over your submission. Please email this to both rog@pigfender.com and rog@novelinaday.com. You will get an email reply once I have confirmed that I am able to open and access your submission.

Please keep an eye out for any emails in case there are problems (there is always 1 or 2 submissions each time that get corrupted for some reason and I can’t access).

Your submission should include the following things:

  1. Confirmation of your forum handle (it’s not always clear form your email addresses etc)!
  2. The name of the dish
  3. A list of ingredients
  4. The description of how to cook the dish (“the method”)
  5. 1 photo of the completed dish
  6. IF NEEDED, up to 2 additional photos from the prep phase.
  7. Your food story (this is the 500-1,500 word prose piece)

Note, in the finished book the FOOD STORY will appear immediately before the RECIPE. You will be credited as your FORUM HANDLE.

Other considerations

  • Please keep all photos under 2MB in file size.
  • Note, photos may be cropped, rotated, resized and other minor edits in the final book
  • Please submit text in a format that is easy for me to extract and import AS TEXT to Scrivener. An RTF file is about the easiest. Please avoid PDF as I’d have to practically retype or reformat every single line. If in doubt, just put the text in the body of the email itself!
  • If you want to change your mind about recipe from somehting previously declared THAT IS PERFECTLY FINE!
  • If you are stumbling on this on the day itself (May 14th 2022) and didn’t technically sign up, don’t worry - just submit anyway!
  • If I’ve not heard from you at all by 8pm UK time on Saturday 14 May 2022, I will assume you are no longer submitting and will start compiling wihtout you!
  • If you’re running A LITTLE late, that’s fine just make sure you let me know.

Hmmm… what else…?

Oh, yeah… HAVE FUN and don’t forget to check in here and chat throughout the day!

No worries, I’ve been watching this thread so that I don’t miss out on anything!

Still reeling in disappointment that I didn’t get to meet K. Or, as I’d like to call him from this point onward, “dismal dude”. The letter K is ambiguous. Not that he hasn’t seen better days (he has), but right now he’s in a rut. So, I have an idea to make a presumably anonymous meme for dismal featuring mister dismal himself to cheer him up (or cheer myself up), except that I’m torn between leaving hints about my identity and scrubbing the video meme of anything that he could use to trace back to me. A rambly Claudia here. Meow.

And if you want to make sense of this, I’m just saying I’m thinking about my story for CiaD, which may or may not feature dismal dude.

Thanx!! I’ll be looking for that.

Hey @WingNWing there won’t be an email – the instructions are in the thread above check, and I’ve updated the very first post in the thread to make it even clearer.

Oh my word. I’m so grateful for technology making our lives easier.
I’m one of those people who keeps all the tabs open. And my browser crashed and normally, I can just restore. I couldn’t.
So since L&L wasn’t up anymore, I forgot to check in. But I didn’t forget our goal or the date.
I’m still not entirely sure what I’m making, but it’ll be a meat dish, probably casserole. I made one of my favorites last night. I’ll be making another tonight.
Can the story be writing related? because yesterday as I was once again panicking that I had no stories to go with food, I realized I cook like I write. I’m a pantser. LOL So I was thinking that would be a good tie in.
Writing related story? Random flash fiction?
Thanks.

Well, we are writing a cookbook, so we are for a bit of food writing here. It can be only loosely connected to the dish – as long as it’s non-fiction food writing!

Perfect. Thanks.
Apparently I need more characters.

I think I’m doing Enchilada Lasagna. Or a roast. But I think the “enchilada lasagna”…

Um, the original post says “A short story … about the dish.” Nothing about “non-fiction”. So I don’t consider that a requirement!

@pigfender - my submission will be a recipe for dutch babies (a baked puff pancake), which is probably like just about every other recipe for the dish since it is so simple, but it’s about the level of complexity that I can handle. I think I have a germ of an idea to write about!

Well… ok… but it is… well, a cookbook. But hey, I trust you to make it work!

I’m excited for this. I always think I’ll make one because it really seems so simple. And yet, I never have. Because I never trust the simplicity I guess. LOL There’s got to be a trick.

I’m still undecided between the casserole and the roast. I did the casserole last night and I have pics. Right now the roast is cooking. So that’ll be done with pics tonight.
8pm BST Saturday is the deadline right? Do you need to know which I went with before that?

Nope - just let me know when you know. At point of submission is okay if necessary!

Does anyone know the trick to get Scrivener to recognize its license number? I was hoping to send it in a Scrivener file, but looks like you’ll be getting an .rtf. Very sorry. Maybe I can get it working before the deadline. :crossed_fingers:
And it looks like I’m going with Roast. That seems to have a better story. Thank you.
edit: I just sent a ticket in to their help. Thank you.

RTF files are the absolutely best and easiest for me!
