Interoperability Scrivener 2 - Macbook w/ Big Sur & Windows 10

My apologies if this info exists somewhere in the forum already. I tried every combination of search terms and couldn’t find anything.

I have been using both Windows and Mac versions of Scrivener 2 for the last few years. I synced to Dropbox and it worked very well between the two systems (My primary computer is a Windows 10 desktop, and I had an older Mac running El Capitan (10.11.6).

I bought a new Macbook Pro (M1 w/ Big Sur) and it arrived yesterday. In trying to get all of my software loaded, however, I discovered I could not install Scrivener 2.9 on the new Macbook – the O/S won’t let me: “The developer of this app needs to update it to work with this version of macOS. Contact the developer for more information.”

I discovered a writeup somewhere yesterday on the L&L site that said in order to continue using interoperability, you need to use Scrivener 1 on Windows and Scrivener 2 on the Mac. However, that was written before Big Sur came out.

Am I just out of luck until Scrivener 3 is available for Windows? This is very disappointing. One of the main reasons I bought the new Macbook is to use Scrivener for writing.

Your best solution is going to be the Windows Scrivener 3 beta, which you can download here:

If you haven’t already, I’d recommend taking a look at our upgrade guide for Scrivener 2 users, as Scrivener 3 has some very significant changes. You can find it here:

Thank you so much – I’ll look this over and I’ll give it a shot.
