It out to be easier... to export scrivenings to a markdown file

Yes, I’ve looked at ch. 21 but…

I just want a markdown file with title as h1, chapters as H2, scenes as h3…

No metadata No notes. Just text.

What am I missing?

You really don’t have to do much to get a result like that; the stock example compile Formats provide layouts that will produce that result. I would start with this post, and maybe skim down to the fifth paragraph, starting with, “All right, now you’re getting into what Scrivener excels at…”. The initial part starts with easing someone into how you can basically copy and paste any existing .md file into the Draft folder and compile it to some file type without having to learn a single thing about Scrivener. Where I pointed you to is where it starts demonstrating how Scrivener can be much more useful than a text editor, and convert outline to headings as you describe wanting to do.

Note that at the bottom of that post is a list of backlinks. Some of those might be useful to track down, as I point a lot of people to this post who are just getting started out with Scrivener+MD.

Here is another good thread, which focuses more on getting the output into word processor friendly form.
