In case you already had 26.0 / 26.0.1 installed and faced issues, did the latest update improve enough to justify the switch from 15.x?
I guess me asking this question is already a warning sign. ![]()

For me, too many unknowns and there is nothing on the Release notes of āimprovementsā in 26.x that cause me yet to change. Translucent stuff doesnāt excite me at all. I have things to do and income/productivity to protect. I know itās inevitable I move, but it wonāt be just because Scrivener reported to work ok, or something like that. For me, probably in New Year.
I realised that these days I hardly ever use my MBA; at home Iām on the Mac Mini and when weāve been away, as itās only been for a couple of days at a time, Iāve only been taking my iPad. So I decided to use the MBA as a testbed for 26; itās running 26.01 at the moment, but Iāll upgrade to 26.1 as soon as I have a moment.
Iām perfectly happy with the look. I donāt think itās any better than Sequoia and the changes donāt seem to have brought me any advantages, but it doesnāt irritate me. But then I generally just focus on what Iām doing and donāt get phased by UI matters. The only thing in that line is browsers (Safari but even more iCab in particular) suddenly enlarging and not going back to default size without restarting. But I know thatās a problem caused by my essential tremor in combination with the trackpad.

Me too: I canāt get too bothered about any of the visual changes for Tahoe, anymore than I was bothered by the changes for Sequoia, or Sonoma, right back to when I first bought a Mac in 2004. Jaguar? Some cat or other, anyway.
I install the new OS and they look a bit odd for a few minutes then a day later itās just the operating system and I get back to using the programs I use to do the stuff I want to do.
One ānoā, one āyesā, and one āwho caresā. Iām grateful for your answers. And I still donāt know if I should update or wait. ![]()
If you already have Tahoe, Iād update to 26.1. If you donāt, whatās the rush?
FWIW, I have not yet installed Tahoe on my own machine and probably wonāt for a few more months.
Unless you have a reason (say to fix something), wait.
Yeah, thatās a no-brainer. But Iām on 15.7.1 (or rather 15.7.2 in some minutes).
The only issue Iāve had was Safari being mind-numbingly slow in loading sites at times. 26.1 supposedly fixed that. Sites now load just fine (so far; but still not as fast as Vivaldi. But I can live with it.)
Tahoe has a number of ānewā things that arenāt really new, just front¢er where they were not front facing in Sequoia.
Mobile integration is probably the biggest. The Launch Center has changed dramatically. Now its an adjunct to the (command + space) search menu, and included access to iPhone Apps on a connected iPhone via Phone Mirroring.
Using an iPad as a dedicated second monitor or even an input device with an Apple pencil still works as well as it did in Sequoia, though like before you can do one or the other, not both. Sadly, this isnāt quite as front and center as Iād like, then again, Iāve whinged elsewhere about wishing I could punchout Scrivener panes into independent windows I could push to the other display(s).
If you are happy with Sequoia then by all means, stay there until you have to upgrade.
For me, Tahoe didnāt break anything and made some tasks easier.
Does Preview still display PDFs with forced rounded corners? (This supposedly changed in 26.1. Not a dealbreaker, just curious if a sane person is working on it.)
Iām not exactly sure what youāre referring to, sorry, as I hadnāt noticed anything in 26.0, but this is a screenshot of Preview with a single page PDF, if that helps?
Huzzah, they have indeed fixed the insanity.
This was how page corners looked in Preview in macOS 26:
Someone had clearly got the memo about rounded corners in the Liquid Glass UI and taken it a bit too far.
macOS 26.1 is a return to sanity:
Thanks Keith!
This has completely passed me by ā as Iāve confessed before, Iām aesthetically blind to a lot of what bothers some people. I just donāt notice it.
Instead I get irritated by programs which assume that everybody only uses the mouse so they donāt bother putting useful commands on the menu (not a problem Iāve ever had with Scrivener or $NewApp, of courseā¦)
We all have our quirksā¦
Thanks for the screenshot, that was exactly what I needed! ![]()
Sometimes āaesthetic choicesā have unintended consequences beyond offending someoneās eyes.
E.g. if you exclusively use Preview to read manuals or whatever (which is perfectly fine!) the look of the corners doesnāt really matter. Square, round, going full BSG, who cares.
But PDF is meant to faithfully represent a (printable) document as intended. And unless you live in a world where missing corners are the norm⦠well. Now you have to install a third-party viewer. Probably not what Apple wanted.
ā>So say we all.<ā
Okay, enough BSG references. I loved that series but Iām still not over how terrible the ending was - it was only sixteen years ago, so itās still a bit raw. ![]()
Maybe we should switch to GoT then. But I donāt want to be responsible for seizures and stuff.
I preferred the original BSG, anyway.
Ha ha. Although actually I didnāt hate the ending to GoT - I just thought it was too rushed, so that elements that had been developing slowly (for instance with Daenarysās character) suddenly moving to light speed. At least it didnāt end up with one of the characters chasing a sparrow around their apartment and another turning out to be a space angel (maybe?). Oh wait, look what youāve done. I told you it was too soon. ![]()
OG BSG FTW. Whatās not to love? Dirk Benedict, Mufti, and ant-men. And the guy who acts John Crichtonās dad in Farscape as Troy (?) in the BSG film where they finally land on Earth at last. And the guy from Bonanza as Adama. Also they had the coolest outfits with the suede jackets.
