Noen andre nordmenn her?

Hei!
Noen nordmenn her? Eller andre skandinaver?

Ich bin Berliner. Nein !

Paul

Hei.

Probably, but if so they post in English

A word anyone who speaks any language can understand.

Well, sorry - I started this… I was just checking if there was any fellow Norwegians here. They´d understand.

Its all right, I don’t think anyone took any offence by you doing so. I don’t understand half the conversations that take place here, even when they are in English.

Well, maybe vic was upset… I can’t be bothered translating his binary into ASCII, so maybe that is a genuine expression of outrage. More likely, he typed a bunch of 1s and 0s and figured that no one would waste their time to figure that out!

Out of interest - is that language German? Or is there actually a Norwegian language? I possess no language skills outside of English, but Ich bin Berliner. Nein! looks german to me (perhaps the ‘Berlin’ gave it away ).

Matt

Yes, there is a Norwegian language - we even have two writing languages, quite similar, but still different. All the Scandinavian countries have their own lang. The Berliner wrote in German.

That’s interesting.

What is the need/use for two writing languages?

Is it a case of one being more formal, or one being older?

Matt

Helo there,

No I’m not Norwegian, I’m Swedish. I know a lot of jokes about Norwegians  . I suppose you don’t care to hear them  .

Ha ha, I haven’t heard this one, since I’ve heard it the first time .

I initially thought you were emulating JFK, famous for saying to a crowd during a visit to Berlin, “Ich bin eine Berliner” … much more interesting!

Mark

I’m no language-expert, but growing up with the two languages, here is as I remember the story…

The two written languages of Norwegian have rather different histories. The most prevalent written form of Norwegian, Bokmål (“book-language”) is related to the danish language. Norway was under danish rule for 434 years until in 1814 Norway went under Swedish rule. During that “400-year night” with Denmark danish became the written language.

Nynorsk on the other hand, is more interesting from a linguistic point of view. It is a constructed language, made in the mid 1800 by the linguist Ivar Aasen, who studied Norwegian dialects in certain areas of middle/western Norway, if I remember correctly. More on him&his work here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nynorsk#Iv … n.27s_work

Anyway - enough about that. I now add myself to the thread of Norwegian Scrivener users…I have been using Scrivener for over a year, and this weekend I return the page proofs to a biography that goes to the printer this week, according to my publisher. Whee - and written in Scrivener it is.

Hei!!

Aurora
Welcome aboard The Good Ship Scrivener

The answer to you question is: Scriv is fast becoming recognised as the Rolls Royce of writing software for the Mac. Most of the rabble that make up the crew of Scrivener will attest to that fact. That`s the only thing you can rely on them being honest about. The miscreants are all congenital liars.

A word of advice. Dont get involved with Chief Pongo. He lives in the far North and has a frozen brain. Hes fluent in,‘Nonsense’ as well as Norwegian
Tak care
Vic

Hei Aurora!

:open_mouth:

But I do believe the preferred language on this board is English, and we’d better stick to that to avoid annoying tiny yelping eye-patched canines and others.
