oh it has to be a landrover:)
This Mrs * wise choice if “start inexpensive so I can see if I like it” before she approves a big boy boat. A Helms 24 that needed someone to see it as more than a drunk tank. I’ve been rebuilding it over the summer. Should be ready for runs down the coast here in a couple weeks.
Groups like this would operate in a manner designed to not draw attention to their actions. The real world is depressingly bland when observed as an outsider. Consider that in Afghanistan army troops used horses and donkeys when operating in a clandestine manner.
Consider the point about vehicles. These guys would be trained to be context appropriate. In private or would be dependent on relationship and rank. Given the ranks provided there would be little use of rank or formality even inside a military complex. Habit would result in a tendency to use last names but it is not absolute. M Fer wouldn’t actually be as common as it is in the movies. I swear it is true.
I would agree for “big army” scenarios. Not so sure it would be evidence for this group though. Certainly would not happen in context of civilian interaction. Given the ranks it would be frowned on even in stressful situations for big army too. If you’re writing for authenticity these guys would only use language like that to intimidate or in combat (but unlikely then). Modern Army is a bit more sensitive these days. I have a story about that I just my share if I get the OK to do so.
@pigfender – Piggy, formal NGO anywhere? Civic transit and distance between the major cities? Are brass provided elsewhere (missing local and up the chain command elements)
Well, Dehmar is a fictional place and I’ve not given anyone details on that, so your fiction is as good as (probably much better than) my fiction in this regard.
As for what I’d have assumed… NGOs - I’d have thought so, but I’ve not defined for anyone, so assume if you create, they’ll not be reused (unless you share it here). Civic transit unlikely to be reliable. Some cars travel for sure, but id not imagined the roads between to be busy places. A humvee would stand out like a sore thumb and be a target. A Sikorsky even more so.
My assumption on command is that jsoc chain would be stateside, but plenty of army brass responsible for military i the region, but not entirely in control of the BMs.
But as I said, my fiction is no better than yours - put what works for your voice and your story
I’ve done a bit more digging, and looking at some other countries in the region, eg Afghanistan, it seems that Toyota Corollas are exceptionally common (90% of cars in Kabul are Corollas!)
Dang it piggy!
In an effort to not embarrass the male spawn, I’ve actually attempted a bit of research. Kid shot my entire premise right in the head (from cover with a 308 because that would be what is used for intermediate distance).
Looks like you are all in for a much less interesting chapter.
you can have mine. I’m totally out of my depth with this brief
I was wondering too… bit of bad blood between the new and old maybe…?
Rum, make it fun, more rum until fun.
It’s the best plan. I started rumming at 4a. I can’t feel my eyelids right now.
I am 100% confident that this time, I will be the one who brings iPhones and Obama to 1991 Washington. I have never felt so ‘I can’t do this’ about NiaD as I do with this brief. I think I may write a mirage scene with dancing flamingos and dolphins frolicking in the turbulent waters of the delusional oasis
I’m kind of surprised at their ages. I’d always thought special forces were a lot younger. NOT, I hasten to add, that I’m ageist. I’m as woke as the next person…
If I have to say ‘leave my dream sequence alone’ once again, I’m going to scream and scream (a la Elizabeth Violet Bott) until I’m blue in the face. ![]()
I may have asked an external entity (not male spawn) on this one… these are a bit higher than expected but not much.
- Older people less likely to act impulsively.
- Older people less suspicious as perception is less threatening.
- Older people more likely to remain focused on “the target” as the saturation on the ground evolves
It appears I’m developing a bit of a watchful eyes as I’ve not been demanded to provide three separate “before you submit” requests. I’m FUBAR
That’s the rum talking, @Jaysen !
me too so totally and hearing chapters in just sets the panic higher
Also, in support of my procrastination, I would offer the. Ire that caused my wife to go “seriously? Your into the backup bottle?”
Yes. Glares at @pigfender
Now I really must get on a write something.
Is that water or vodka in the glass to the right?
no… DRINK SOMETHING!
I feel like I’m kind of flying solo with the NiaD drinking game…
Water. I don’t believe in harming innocent potatoes.
Also, had to “hydrate” after my run this morning.
