I need some assistance creating a custom format in Compile. I want to create one that is suitable for submitting ‘treatments’ for school assignment. In a treatment, I just need the Title and Synopsis for each ‘page’. The title and synopsis are the metadata that you usually see when you see the index card page. I want to display only that.
I managed to get something close enough working.
I do not understand what the various section layout names mean. What defines a Chapter number, Chapter Numer and Text? What is New Page Heading, vs Heading. What is Text Section?
In my binder, the page ‘names’ are basically the same as title.
Can anyone help me with a tutorial video for this specific feature, or give me some advice/assistance?
First of all, I would start with a better compile Format than what it sounds like you did—something rather intended to make a manuscript of some kind. The “Outline Document” format is a good place to start. Select that, then click Assign Section Layouts... and pick which layouts to use. You’ll probably want most things to use the “Title and Synopsis” layout.
That might well be the end of it! But if you want to change the fonts or formatting a bit, you should be able to take it from there. While you are looking at Section Layouts compile option tab, have a look at the table at the top, and how there are checkboxes for setting what types of content to export (Title, Notes, Synopsis, etc.). That’s how you would go about creating something like this from scratch.
