Those mo-fo’s … absolutely not. No no no no no. I want nothing to do with a dang emu. They are the bird version of a dang gator. I’ve seen a gator get up and walk away after BEING DEAD FOR 2 HOURS. When “the army” LOSES to a bird… no. Just give them the damn island back. Even the birds in that place want to end everyone. You take those a$$holes off the island and they don’t get nicer (do they Karen)!
How are you doing nomnomnomnomnom?
Also… I may be out of rum again. I need a cheaper pass-time.
Congratulations to everyone. So nice to see a lot of the old gang back together again – of only in spirit.*
Can’t wait to read these. As is our tradition here for collections, we have been turning through them reading first paragraph only – like movie teaser trailers but for short stories.

Bill, of “Bill’s Liquor” owe’s piggy. So does the patent holder for whatever OTC medicaiton I’m taking in the monrings to make the dark less bright.
Not to be picky, but is it a violation of anything to get the forum handle next to the name somehow? I know who piggy is in real life, and I don’t hide that “jaysen” is … Jaysen. But who the hell are nom and gr (not so meta physically or phonically)?
Asking for an *.
Loved it. Obviously a completely different experience to the madness that is NIAD, but the shared experience was more fun given we weren’t all panicking from start to finish. Well, most of us.
Personally, I enjoyed the chance to try writing in a completely different manner and style. From which I learnt quite a bit.
The finished product looks great. Crackin’ job, mate
As always, I’d love to know what you thought of the event and the finished book!
It was great, it finally broke my paralysis of years and just go sit down and write something. Just the little push I needed, hopefully I can take this to NaNoWriMo.
The book looks really nice, already read a few of the other stories and really like the variety.
The Event: 'twas stonking good fun! Next time (and I’m keeping my fingers well and truly crossed that there will be a next time) could we possibly have a discord server so as to natter in real time? The forums are great, but… you know.
I thought it was better than a regular NIAD, because writing a chapter of a book (even with guidance) is a lot, lot harder than it first appears. Character, dialogue, and description tends to be a tad iffy - chapter to chapter. The times I’ve winced and wished *‘if I’d only written ‘that bit’ just a little differently it would have fitted so much better.’
Villa Diodati, however! 40 shorts stories complete, in and of themselves. Brilliant! And the book cover ROCKS!
Kudos, Rog. In heaps!
My pet theory is that they, as well as all the others, are pigfender himself.* Remember the villain in Start Wearing Purple? I rest my case.
(* Except you of course. Someone had to be the foil to his fender.)
I loved the event and love the book—the cover too! There’s so much talent here, and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying my read-through. With each new story, I’m amazed at the creativity and imagination that went into this—so many ideas I’d never have thought of in a million years.
Once again, thank you so much for organizing this, as I’d missed NiAD. While I always enjoyed that format, I had a lot of fun going out of my comfort zone with a full short story original. I haven’t done much writing for ages, so it was the kick in the pants I sorely needed!
Gils, your “electrons heading your way” is taxing my scientific brain. As the majority of transport will be by light along an optic fibre, “lightwaves” will be more appropriate. I like “packets of wisdom"
I can only give the electrons a shove in the right direction. After they slide through the ancient copper wires and away from the house, the vast and unforgiving sea of the internet will toss, turn, convert, and transport them as it wills.
So true Gils - and all will be reconstructed at the other end in the correct order. Magic!
My job was to make sure that bits sent thousands of miles by optic fibre arrived in good shape. But of course, rubbish in, rubbish out. In your case, quality in, quality out
I wish I’d seen this before I began…
I thought we were all the imagination of AmberV/Ioa. Or KB. Or VicK. Or *. I kind of forget it was a while back…
Huh. I thought they were Jaysen. I mean, have you ever seen them in the same place at the same time?
Although… Given the theme this year, could they be vic-k’s revenge?
Thank you, Pigfender! That was fun. The book looks great!

Good memory. It was 14 years ago…
I’m rather happy with my characterisations of pigfender, Hugh and Fluff, I must say - but just wait to see what I have in store for them in the third act… Buhaha etc.
Good memory. It was 14 years ago…
Most of the time I can’t remember where my shoes are… while I’m wearing them.

Well, if you want to delve into pigfender’s ancestry… I guess. He is, of course, the spirit that haunts their collective imagination — clomping around in Jaysen’s shoes and scaring everybody.
