Writing tools are all disabled

I have an issue where all of the items under Writers Tools are disabled/greyed out. I did see this post but I either don’t understand it sufficiently or it is not the problem I have: Writing Tools All Greyed Out

I am vieweing a specific Text item, with the view set to Document. Is this is what is meant by an “Editor View” in the linked post or do I need to be in a different place to be able to use these tools? If so, why is that the case, because it seems like they would be most useful when writing text for a book.

Is the cursor actually in the Editor pane?

Yes, it definitely is inside the editor pane, assuming you mean the large central part of the window. I’m trying to be precise here because it seems very odd.

What version of Mac OS, please?

macOS Version is Sequoia Version 15.1 (24B83). I’m running Scrivener 3.4 16638.

I just realized the problem. This is the macOS Writing Tools menu item – which means that it is only active if you have a selection.

I was looking for the “writing tools” that Scrivener itself supplies but I have now realized that these are throughout the menu system rather than in one place.

Those are now called “reference tools” and is located in the same place as before.

Thanks for the clarification – I had seen some old documentation or articles I believe, since this is my first version of Scrivener. All is clear now! :slight_smile:
