Scrivener 3 Themes (Windows)

Is it possible (possibly easy) to convert a theme for Mac into a them for Windows?

I’ve found one I really like (except for the interface window color in general) but it is only for Mac

I’m trying to decide if it is worth buying or if I’d be wasting my money.

Thanks

No. It’s possible to re-create it. From Mac to Win it could be flawless. From Win to Mac UI-elements like MenuBar, Menus, Buttons, etc. cannot be styled.

Buying a macOS Theme for use in Windows is a waste of money, because it will not work.
Buying a Windows Theme for use in macOS won’t work either.

So, which Theme for Mac would you like to re-create for Windows?

I really like this one. I am trying to re-create it but with surrounding interface in the dark blue/green color.

I started with the Solarized Dark to try and achieve it, but I cannot get the lines in notes or the background image, etc. I did a screen grab and color dropper-ed it in Photoshop but this is as close as I’ve come.

Looks impressive already! (Not so fond of the CAPITAL letters in the menus, though)

To get the background, you should recreate the color gradient, set your Editor to Fixed Width and assign the background in: File > Options > Appearance > Main Editor > Color > Fixed Width Background.

Here are some images that may help you: ThemeImages.zip (75.7 KB)

I wish you success!

I’m really liking the beige and mint combination. Looking forward to trying it out.

Thank you so much! I’m trying but I wish I was any good at coding

As of two years ago, apparently the lined notes panel of the inspector was only available for Mac versions and still hasn’t made it to Windows.

I found the info on a reddit thread but I don’t know if it’s allowed here.

So now, there’s an intermediate alternative

Hello everyone, I’ve only just started using Scrivener, so apologies if this is a stupid question. I love the themes (in fact, that’s the reason I purchased it in the first place as I was tired of looking at white screens whilst writing); however, I’m kind of at a loss as to where everyone gets their lovely background pictures from. Is there a website that specialises in these? Or are they just normal HD wallpapers? Cheers!

Does anyone know where to find a BLACK Theme? I did a little searching and was surprised when I wasn’t successful immediately.

I am looking for a truly black Theme (windows) with dark grey lines. Maybe something that is very close would also be a help - so that I can use it as a base.
BTW: I also thought it would be very easy to do this by myself… but I could not find a way how to change the menu colors and some other little things and then did not want to spend too much time on it : )

Hi.
There is already a built-in one. Dark Mode.
If you go to the options and click “Manage” at the bottom left, there are a few themes already listed.

Everything that is not theme-specific is in the Appearance tab of the Options.
Themes are complex. @AntoniDol (he’s the local expert  ) wrote a book that might interest you. The link is in his profile.

This one is very black…

Thank you Vincent! I am actually looking for a Black Theme. Like 100% black.
I’d say Dark Mode is more of a “gray” Theme.

Thank you : ) I have seen this one already here in the thread! I am actually surprised that what I am looking for does not seem to exist yet.
If noone knows where to find one I will probably use this one as base : )

This is actually what I did. I literally went through everything in the Appearance tab that was not font and turned it to black… But the Menu, the top and lower bars and a few other -probably Windows related stuff- was still unchanged.
I keep trying ; )

The top bar and Windows controlled stuff is “accent color” in the OS settings.

You need to pick your color, then there is a checkbox for app top bar and stuff below the color palette.

@Zee63 mentions in that post upthread that they’ll build you a custom theme for $2.

Sounds like a great deal to me. :moneybag:

While theme-building can be fun, it will be a relatively deep technical endeavor, depending on how ‘perfect’ you want the theme to be, and that’s assuming you’ve read Antoni’s excellent book cover to cover. If you haven’t read his book, be prepared to spend many many hours trying to figure out what you need to tweak to impact the UI.

Best,
Jim

The scrtheme-file is a compressed (zip) file, containing four parts. Many of the Application’s chrome colours are set in the Palette (.pal) file. Others are determined in the QSS Stylesheet. The .xml- file, I call the manifest, is where the name is set. A prefs-file predominately containes non-visual settings.

I have a concept and even researched a Theme called “HotStove” that’s completely black with few hints of the actual UI, but I haven’t even started implementing that one…

Wow! A 100 posts! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
